The Chronic moves 11,000 units

Dr. Dre now has two albums in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart, Compton and his solo debut, The Chronic. The albums sit on the charts at number 3 and 38 respectively. Dre’s other album, 2001, sits at number 55.

To crack the top 40, The Chronic moved 11,000 units in the chart cycle dated September 5. Billboard is reporting that this is the first time The Chronic has been in the top 40 for almost 22 years. Dre and the rest of N.W.A have seen surges in sales of their music since the release of the feature film based on the story of the group’s rise to prominence in the late 1980’s.

The Chronic, the first major release on Death Row Records, spawned three top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They were “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang”, “Dre Day” and “Let Me Ride”. The Chronic is almost universally considered to be a classic album that launched the careers of several artists, most notably Snoop Dogg.
