Inside the Mind of Your Favorite Bartender

One of the first rules of bartending is communication. Whether you work at a high volume bar or a mom and pop establishment, communication with your guests is paramount.

At some point and time, every bar gets overloaded with an amount of guests that any one bartender can handle at one time. When this does happens, communication is key. Be sure to greet guests and let them know what you are doing so that they do not feel under-appreciated.

Make eye contact and let your guest know that you are pouring a beer or making a drink for another guest and that you will be with them as soon as soon as possible. Guests will appreciate this gesture and hopefully prevent any animosity towards you.

In your mind, keep a tab on what guest is next in line and serve them accordingly. On the flip side, if a guest is indecisive, let them know that you will be right back and go help another.

If you do this, you will see higher sales and higher tip percentages.
